Padron Delicias Maduro Cigar Review

Sunday, January 1st, 2012

Cigar Reviews Padron Delicias Maduro Cigar Review cigarobsession.com http This petite stick coming in at 4 7/8×46 offers a dark brown, very tooth and rugged wrapper with firm, crunch construction, some medium veins and an uneven handmade appearance. The aroma is a faint peppery tobacco with a hint of sweetness. First light reveals a very free, open draw and huge smoke output. Flavors are a typical Padron tobacco – slightly sweet, slightly peppery and a medium body. Overall very soft satiny smoke. The first third brought the core of the Padron experience. You get this in just about every stick they make. A smooth earthiness, good pepper kick and zing, rich smoke output that leaves a bit of oil on your lips and a bit of sweetness. The finish is long and peppery, the body moved up to a medium-full along with a nice strength to match. A slight buzz came on just 10 min in. 40 min in at the 1/2 way point the stick is exactly the same, burning perfectly, remaining extremely consistent. Ending at 1 hour to the nub, the flavors proved to be the same from start to finish which is just fine for me – they were great!

Punch Gran Puro Cigar Review

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

Punch Gran Puro is an all Honduran cigar that is extra-dark and extra-bold, sealed in a Havana-seed wrapper and is developed especially for this cigar in the quaint richness of the San Agustin Valley of Honduras. The Punch Gran Puro is manufactured with 100 per cent Honduran grown tobaccos. The unique and uncommon blend offers a complete medium to full bodied smoke, with an earthly bouquet.

The binder of the Punch Gran Puro, as well as the wrapper leaves, are grown in the sun and specially selected from the highest priming’s to ensure its special color and flavor. The result is the puro of puros, which in other terms means it is a cigar that is impossible to imitate. This unique cigar has a round, yet spicy taste with just a slight hint of natural cinnamon that originates from the exclusive soil of the San Agustin Valley.

Punch cigars made their debut in Honduras in the late 1960′s after Castro gained control of Cuba.

However, they originated in Cuba in the 19th century. Today they are extremely popular and are actually the preferred cigar of aficionados worldwide. The Punch Gran Puro humidor box expresses this stick of flavor’s rich heritage with an elegant medallion that features a classic illustration of Mr. Punch and his loyal dog Toby. In the tobaccos that are used in the crafting of the PURO cigars, the blend is from a single nation. This awesome cigar is a genuine puro cigar that is now produced under the guidance of cigar master Frank Llaneza for the Villazon Company in Honduras.

Punch sure lives up to its name because it has a bold, full-bodied taste that appeals to those who follow the beat of their own drum, rather than following the pied piper, so to say.

The wrapper is a full-flavored leaf that is grown in Ecuador, while the filler is a blend of rich Honduran, Nicaraguan, and Dominican tobaccos. The tobaccos are exclusively all sun-grown which ensures its special color and flavors, and is also a very straightforward, no-nonsense type of cigar. Making it the type of cigar that you would expect Mr. Punch to be indulging in.

Punch cigars are spreading around good cheer this holiday season, and they make the perfect gift for that special person in your life that loves a good cigar. The Gran Puro cigar is quite a memorable smoke, and is especially enjoyed by experienced cigar smokers everywhere.

The Punch Gran Puro has a balance of moderate strength and flavor, which makes this cigar an excellent choice for both beginning and experienced smokers alike. The flavor is consistent throughout the cigar while smoking it, and you will sincerely not want to lay it down until it is finished. The flavor of this cool little cigar will remain mellow and flavorful after aging them in a humidor for at least several months. It is a well-made cigar and has an even burn, and the draw is very easy as well. The construction of this particular cigar is very good and will provide the utmost enjoyment by smokers everywhere.

Partagas Spanish Rosado Cigar Review

Sunday, December 4th, 2011

The Partagas Spanish Rosado is a cigar that has been creating quite a stir. It is a wonderful medium bodied cigar with an abounding rich flavor that is due in part to the San Agustin wrapper that envelops the divine tobacco. The Partagas Spanish Rosado is an extremely complex cigar that is also very well balanced.

The Partagas Spanish Rosado cigar was brought to us by the talented makers that began their passion for cigars many years ago, with rich Cuban roots. This beautiful stick was named accordingly as the wrapper is a beautiful red tint, and it is exclusively grown for General Cigar in the San Agustin Valley in Honduras. The name “Spanish” refers to the country of Spain and its influence in Honduran history.

This cigar offers a rare taste that aficionados expect from this brand. The Honduran-shade wrapper has a rich appearance. It has a slightly oily sheen and is a deep, reddish-brown in color.

Because of the unique soil it is grown in, the wrapper provides a nice spicy bite, while a subtle taste of cinnamon reminds you where it was grown. This cigar burns quite nicely and leaves a solid ash. It also has a Connecticut Broadleaf binder with a magnificent blend of Mexican, Dominican, and Honduran tobaccos. It is a cigar that all would love to have in their humidor.

One truly cannot say enough about the wrapper because it is a true beauty. It makes the cigar look rich and inviting, while imparting a wonderful, full flavor. The construction of this stick of joy is very good, with a firm feel, and it is very well balanced. As previously mentioned, the Partagas Spanish Rosado produces a beautiful white ash and massive volumes of spicy smoke. While the wrapper produces the awesome flavor, it can also be the cause of some uneven burning, so while smoking this cigar, be sure to rotate it for an even burn.

The flavor deserves to be embellished on.

While expecting a medium smoke with a touch of spiciness, we received much more than that. This pure stick of smiles is very rich and complex, while being extremely flavorful. Cinnamon and chocolate are the flavors that hit you in the first third of your smoking adventure, while the cigar is warming up. Then, there is a deep woodsy background, which starts in the middle and carries it through until the very end. The cinnamon flavor at times may have a peppery zing that carries over into the sweetness of the cigar, adding another layer of flavor altogether.

The burn of this cigar was in general a good burn, with only a slight issue of unevenness from time to time, but it quickly fixes itself. Overall the Partagas Spanish Rosado cigar is impressive and has a very astute performance. It is a very slow burning cigar that will get kudos from all cigar perfectionists. This is definitely a cigar to keep in your humidors, making it handy for future enjoyment. This time Partagas simply outdid itself when coming up with the Spanish Rosado because of it quaintness and boldness, which offers dual enjoyment. Once you light this cigar with your handy cigar lighter or cigar torch, you will be off in another world of smoking heaven. This is a beautiful cigar – plain and simple. Any description doesn’t do it fair justice, you just have to try it for yourself.

Ashton Classic 898 Cigar Review

Saturday, November 5th, 2011

Cigar Reviews review www.cigarobsession.com Ashton Classic 898 This 6.5×44 stick offers a light tan wrapper with small veins and a thin slightly soft wrapper. The flavor profile was very complex with changes happening every few minutes to the band point. Total burn time tot he band was 1 where it got a little warm for my taste but still had a good inch left. Flavors included earth, leather, cinnamon, spice, pepper, cocoa, coffee, mocha and creme in various combinations as the stick burned down. Overall the body was medium, with touches on either side growing as it burned. Draw also changed significantly, from very firm to just on the loose side with the perfect resistance by the 1/2 way point. Thank you very much to Ashton Cigars for generously sending this sample for review! Photography by BG Pictures.

Product Review: Xikar Genesis Lighter

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

I received the Xikar Lighter as a present for Father’s Day.  Since I had never had a Xikar lighter, I wondered how it would compare to my old flame lighters.  My wife told me the story of how she came to choose the Xikar lighter over the other butane cigar lighters that she was looking at.

When she bought this lighter at our local cigar store, my wife asked how this compared to the other flame lighters I’ve had.  The store owner told her that he was disappointed in the other butane cigar lighter brands, having seen their quality drop off over time.  However, he pointed out the Xikar Lighter series, and noted that their quality has stayed steady, their product is backed by a lifetime warranty, and that their production has not been outsourced to inferior manufacturers.  The store owner told her that the Xikar lighter was one of the best cigar lighters he has ever seen, and pointed out the Genesis series, since it was priced at around .  Whether or not this was a good sales pitch, his remarks were enough to convince my wife, who prides herself on finding quality products.

When I first saw this flame lighter, it looked very similar to the other butane cigar lighters I’ve owned.  However, when I tried the Xikar lighter for the first time, I noticed that this butane cigar lighter has good response time.  I’ve used this flame lighter several times since, and it has not failed once.  Compared to other lighters, the Xikar lights my cigar much more evenly and consistently.  You can find this flame lighter online or at most local cigar stores.  I highly recommend the Xikar Genesis lighter as one of the best cigar lighters you will find under .

Product Review: Prometheus Drop Ashtray

Monday, August 8th, 2011

I received the Prometheus Drop Ashtray as a present for my birthday several years ago.  I had never heard of the Prometheus brand before, much less the line of ashtrays they produced for cigars.  I did a little research and was astounded by both the price and the quality behind the product Prometheus produces.

According to the company’s website, http://www.prometheuskkp.com, Prometheus crystal ashtrays are 100% pure crystal and hand-made in Tuscany by master artisans.  The retail price of these ashtrays starts with the Drop line, priced at 0, and ranges up to 5 for several models.  However, you can find the Prometheus Drop ashtray online for as low as 0.

A quick scan of other Prometheus products, such as the bone china ashtrays, or the Prometheus line of cigar humidors, lighters, cigar cases, and other cigar accessories, leads you to believe that Prometheus charges a huge premium.  For a company established in 1992, there is not a lot of tradition or history, compared to the rest of the cigar industry, where companies are known for being passed from generation to generation within a single family.  An example of such a family is the Fuente family, especially renowned for its line of Fuente Fuente OpusX cigars (see my other article on this line of cigars at:  ).  Further review of the Prometheus website shows a line of accessories produced under the Fuente Fuente OpusX brand, as well as other brands, such as Ashton, Romeo Y Julieta, and others.

Is the quality of the Prometheus ashtray worth such a premium?  After all, it’s just an ashtray for cigars.  Its sole job is to hold cigar ash.  I definitely think that I would not have purchased an ashtray like the Prometheus for myself, since I do not have the opportunity to smoke cigars often, and my money could be better put to use on something that doesn’t hold cigar ash.  However, I do believe that as a present for Father’s Day, Christmas, or a birthday, the Prometheus ashtrays make an extraordinary present for a loved one who wouldn’t purchase one for themselves.
