Cusano M1 Cigars

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

Before becoming known for some of the best premiums in the world, Cusano cigars started their value driven business in bundles with their Celebrity series which encompasses several lines of bundled cigars that were made with one goal in mind, to compete directly with name brand cigars twice their price. Rolled at the famous Tabadom Factory in the Dominican Republic, the bundled Cusano Celebrity series has used exacting standards to match the blends of some of the most famous cigars in the world including Punch, Partagas, Macanudo, and Montecristo to name a few. This cigar uses an Connecticut shade wrapper, Dominican binder and Dominican filler.

The M1 by Cusano directly challenges the blend of the famous Macanudo, acclaimed to the best selling cigar in the United States. Since its debut it has become an everyday cigar for aficionados everywhere that want to combine great prices with great cigars. In addition to Macanudo, this cigar is a great alternative to other Dominican favorites such as La Aurora, Fuente, and Ashton. The cigars come packaged in bundles of 20 and are available in 5 sizes. Once again Mike Chiusano has begged the question, why pay more for a quality cigar.

Cusano is in no way affiliated with Macanudo which is a registered trademark of General Cigar Corporation.

very good for the money, worth twice as much – brian

Good smooth, mild flavor, not much of an aftertaste. Nice white ash. Smooth wrapper, but burned inconsistently after about the first third. Overall, I give it a solid 85, will probably buy more of these. – Anthony Webb

I must just say, that I was very impressed with this medium cigar. I thought the flavor was a nice non-overpowering one, and the draw was perfect. It was very smooth and offers a tremendous value to cigar smokers. The burn was a tad uneven, but overall I would give it a B+. – Matthew Elrod

Persnally I think that this is one ofthe finast smokes around for the price. The harmony between smoker and cigar is unequaled. Draw was nice and smooth. The burn was even. Even works when you don;t want to smoke the entire cigar. Let it burn itself out, and then when you want to come back to it, knock off the ask, and relight. Excellent smoke~ – Bobby

This is truly a fine cigar for the price. It’s the cigar you can sit on your patio with, enjoy with a nice single malt scotch and let you troubles just drift away. – Steve Hawkins

The M1 was probably the least expensive cigar I have smoked so far. However, it was one of the best too. It really did replicate a Macanudo, but lacked the creamy taste that Macanudos have. Smooth and mild to medium bodied, this cigar is pretty good. – Jon Lung

I enjoyed this cigar from the very beginning. The flavor and aroma were very satisfying and a wonderful start to my day. The only thing that would keep me from giving the M1 a perfect 5/5 is that near the end I encountered some air pockets. Admittedly it may just have been that one in particular. I’ll try a few more before committing to a box. – Michael

While serving in Iraq my buddies and I were looking for something affordable and reasonably priced. We came across the M1 and it was a hit. Even those who weren’t regulars were asking me for them. Its nice and smooth from start to finish and tastes great. – JLo

I pesonaly love Cusano’s Vanilla flavored cigars and was wanting to find a cigar that was all natural and did not have any added flavors. Sweet tabaco, miled and a pleasing smoke and smell. After smoking one Cusano M1 I am hooked! For me it has enough sweetness in the tabaco and not strong enough to get me kicked out of a publice place or have some none-smokers tell me it stinks all the time. I did get one or two that burned uneven at the start, but for me it is a very good smoke and I would buy a Cusano M1 over a higher priced cigar that delivers the same smoke and better burn. – Nick A.

I decided to buy a bundle of these because of the price. I am one that thinks that most cigars are overpriced and are really worth much less than their asking price. However, the M1, at less than $2 per stick, is a really great deal. The flavor and draw is wonderful. I think it is priced right and it has definitely become my favorite. – LP

I find that all of the positive reviews about this gar are on the money! Great gar, good draw, easy smoking. Glad that I took the time to grad this great gar, and smoke them with good friends. Worth every penny I spent for them. – Roy

My humidor is stocked with a variety of different cigars all much more expensive than the Cusano. M1 by Cusano is by far as good as any of them and the Robusto is just right for an evening smoke. I see why it is number two. – Gary

My favorite everyday smoke…in fact Cusano (Chiusano)has never steered me wrong. Try all of the celeb. series! – Doc

A great cigar. This was the first bundle that I had purchased and I must say that I was very pleased. I love to smoke these and watch a James Bond movie! – David R.

Good cigars for the price… I bought a sampler, it was well worth the cost. Even burn, mild. Will buy more. – Andrew

I bought 6 sticks of various cigars for all under $3 supposedly all being the “best value”. This was the best one in my opinion. If you are on a budget but still want great mild taste, this is the one for you. – Jon Paul

This is very good tasting mild cigar worth twice as much and then some. It burns very nicely and has a fine draw. It is an excellent value and has caused me to rethink my buying and testing stratagies. – p mcdonald

Just because it isn”t expensive doesn”t mean it is a bad cigar. Mild but very flavorful, and you can”t beat the price. A great every day smoke. – Thomas A.

Decided to try some smaller smokes for the shop at work and found these at a decent price. Overall a nice mellow smoke with a woody taste. Pleasant flavor and smoke until the last 1/3 where it gets bitter. Overall it reminds me of the “White Owls” I smoked when I was younger. – Brad

As a new cigar smoker, have tried a wide variety of mostly medium to mild cigars and these are my curent favorites for a shorter smoke. – Billy

Wonderfully smooth, great aroma. Even, slow burn. One of my favorites. – Willy

My favorite. Smooth taste, not too strong or too mild. I suggest over any other cigar. – B. Huynen

Very smooth cigar. Great aroma and a good aftertaste. I would recomend this to all cigar smokers. – John

I never had such a classy expierience in my life. A true delight for the most educated of cigar smokers. I never wanted it to end as I stunk from that smell of success all night! A nice little shot of scotch and one of these bad boys tells everyone in the room “Yea This Is My Lifestyle.” – Roger

An excellent cigar for one of those relaxing nights on the balcony. It has the perfect blend of smoothness, and the aroma is “delicious”. An A++ cigar! – Matt

Rated 87. Solidly constructed with a yellowish, veiny wrapper. The draw has wheaty, woody notes that are a touch dry. A medium bodied cigar. – Cigar Aficionado, August 2007

Whether its a wedding, fourth of July, Thanksgiving,or just a breezy saturday night, you simply cannot go wrong with this cigar. Not too strong, yet still has a distinctive taste. A++ – Matt- Marlyland

The Don Diego is the perfect cigar for those enthusiasts who don’t want a lot of body or an overbearing flavor. By all measures it is exactly what one would expect from a smooth Dominican cigar and it is fairly strait forward on the palate. The brand has a lot of history and is considered a classic. Taste the lighter side of the Dominican Republic with a Don Diego.

Cigars

smooth, mild and even cigar. The last third is as enjoyable as the first. To be smoked slowly and enjoyed to the fullest. – Fred B.

Smooth, mild, with hints of cream, cedar, and notes of dry wood and leather. Peppery finish. The natural and the maduro are by far the best. Excellent with a good scotch. – Mark

Rated 85. This cigar has a good looking wrapper and it burs wiht a flaky ash. The draw is firm. It is a little creamy and dry, with notes of sandalwood and touches of cocoa and coffee. Medium to full bodied. – Cigar Aficionado, December 2006

This is a great smoke. The stubby size is a fooler, the 4.5 inch smoke still lasts about 35 minuets or more without burning out. Nothing worse than a cigar that wont stay lit if not puffed every few seconds. These are great for the money as well. Smooth with a meaty finish.Thick blue smoke with a lite smell for others. Try one. – Prince of Peace

Wonderful. 91 in my book. Silky smooth wrapper. Tasty complex flavor with bold cedar notes and a solid peppery spice through the nose. Woodsy undertones. The smoke produces a euphoric sensation in the frontal lobe and a satisfaction only common in Fuente Cigars. – Tyler C.

This is one of favorites in the Fuente line. This well constructed beauty is a sight to behold. Taking it from it’s, your sense’s are treated to the wonderful aroma of well aged tobacco sheathed in cedar, wow what a combination! This smooth tasting, medium bodied cigar has a wonderful tobacco and spice flavor with a wonderful aroma. A great way to treat yourself to a wonderful and relaxing hour! – Joe Mazloom

Rated 88. This well made cigar has a smooth even draw and a fine burn. It is creamy, rich and nutty, with notes of light wood and a touch of pepper. Mild to medium bodied. – Cigar Aficionado, February 2007

The Gran Reserva line is the flagship of the brand coming in a variety of sizes and spanning several popular wrappers. The cedar wrapped line combines a smooth Connecticut wrapper over a Dominican filler and binder making it a mild masterpiece. The Cameroon sizes take advantage of a Central African wrapper that builds a medium body over a Dominican binder and filler. This wrapper has a tangy more flavorful aroma on the palate. In addition to the natural and Cameroon wrappers, Fuente makes their popular cigars in a sweet and dark maduro wrapper that that has a more robust flavor. CLICK HERE TO ORDER.

Wonderful coffee and earthy flavors with just the *slightest* touch of sweet- spice. I’d say on a scale of 1 to 10 for COMPLEXITY, this is a 11! Personal opinion is that the mural (oh, 4 and a quarter, maybe 4 and a half inch by 42 or 44 rg) is the tastiest, fullest flavor (not body, which I’d call medium or maybe med-to-full… maybe…) of the line, with a long-lasting/ full finish that makes you want to eat the smoke somehow — close second is the FFF (Full Fathom 5), a box- pressed robusto grande (5.5 x 55rg), which burns slower and more deliberate, producing slower flavor changes from foot to head in a far cooler smoke. Complex is an understatement… take the RP vintage 92 and smush it (not literally!) with the smooth and cool cocoa/ coffee of a CAO Brazilia Gol!, then lastly add a VERY mild sweet- spice typical of the Puros Indios lines = yum! Ignore the mexican in the filler – it doesn’t muck it up, really, and the nic “zing” with the brazillian wrapper makes it just…wowzers! Sorry for the super- long review, and I hope it helps more than it confuzzles. – ZugbugPete

CAO VR features a dark Brazilian Arapiraca maduro wrapper that is harmoniously balanced with Mexican and Nicaraguan long fillers. This cigar boasts notes of leather, pepper and a subtle sweetness on the palate. All sizes in the line are round with the exception of the Full Fathom Five which comes box-pressed. A great, small cigar. Mild and flavorful. Makes my afternoon commute a pleasure. – Billy

Perfect cigar for guests and amatuers that dont finish larger cigars. Yet they get to smoke a premium, mild, smooth, hand made dominican beauty. I also smoke them on short car rides or when i want a quick 10-15 minute smoke. Pick up a tin or 2 for your humidor! – benny

I haven’t tried many “little cigars” or cigarillos yet but this is definitely my favorite. Mild, smooth, creamy almost buttery flavor w/the slightest hint of cedar and even slighter sweetness on the ocassional puff. Also a little peppery as it nears the band, but again, this is slight. Quite a nice treat for a such a little cigar, great to enjoy when you’re on the go or just don’t have time for a full size smoke. The Arturo Fuente Cubanitos used to be my favorite of the small sizes but these have replaced them. I get a better draw with more smoke and they are also slightly cheaper than the AF Cubanitos (and a bit milder as well). I will always keep a tin or two of these in my humidor. – Jay In Phoenix

Smoke these all the time,a real treat for something so small(love the maduro also)I always start with an ascot they are so good.A great all round smoke, you can inhale if you want they are that smooth. – aussie shaun

Baron De Rothschild add your review

I just finished a Baron De Rothschild. I thought the Prince Phillip was good…well this smoke was even better!!! Very smooth, great draw, excellent taste to the very end. Will definitely be buying more of these. – Jay

As always a superb smoke. Smooth flavourful and just the right size for relaxing with over a drink and conversation. – Rob

Rated 87. A firm cigar with a firm draw. It has notes of wood and sweet cream and a solid tobacco flavor. Mild to medium bodied. – Cigar Aficionado, August 2006
