Cigar Smoking-More of A Culture Than Habit

Ever seen and got fascinated by the Hollywood hunk who smokes cigar. Wills Smith in “Independence Day”, John Travolta, Jack Nicholson and many other heroes made it look really cool. Besides, smoking cigars give you an elite and macho looks and no wonder why many persons are switching to cigars from cigarettes. Well, cigars have taken the fascination of many and after the 90′s many persons have turned to it. Never forget there are some real cigar aficionados too.

Cuban cigars are known to be classy and popular but they come costly and hence they find their place between the finger of rich and high class persons. Flaunting a cigar in their hands, sniffing its exotic aroma, cutting it, holding it between the corners of lips, lightning it and finally smoking it, every step for an aficionado is a piece of art. It is vindicated by the admiring eyes of persons around someone who is puffing it in a perfect blend of a touch of sophistication and some machismo.

Cigar accessories are equally important and these include cutters, rollers and cigar lighters. Some of these accessories come quite costly and they are available in all shapes and sizes. The popularity and the increased volumes of sales have prompted many companies to foray into manufacturing cigars and the accessories. This has resulted in competition which has helped in the reduction of cost to stay in the market and more and more firms are going towards gaining the volumes as against the margins which happened before 90′s. This has been beneficial for the consumers as they can now avail cheap cigars without any compromise in the quality of blend.

If you are thinking to switchover to cigars then you must have knowledge of their varieties. Suggestions from those who smoke it can be quite beneficial. And if you research must then Internet is the best medium to do so as you would get all the information sitting before your computer screen. You can also try out different flavors and then use the one which you like the most. Again, if you want to save time then you can order a particular brand of cigar through online sellers.

Buy Cigars Online at MiamiCigarShop.com at affordable price. We sell all major cigar brands, humidors, and cigar accessories with a wide variety of Machine Made Cigars, Little Cigars, Filtered Cigars and Cigar Accessories.

Cigar Ratings

There are many different factors that can be taken into account when rating a cigar. These include appearance, flavor, effect, finish, ash, tobacco quality, the feel in your mouth and overall quality.

Cigar Aficionado magazine have a systematic approach to determining their cigar ratings, using the following categories:

Appearance and Construction. How does it look and feel to the touch? Is it too moist? Is it firm enough? The look of a cigar plays a very important part in the cigar smoking experience. A cigar should feel smooth when you roll it in your fingers. Soft or hard parts can cause inconsistent smoke draw or harsh burning. 15 points are assigned to this category.
Flavor. Taste and aftertaste of the cigar should be smooth, but still full. Does it taste too bitter? This category takes up 25 points.
Smoking Characteristics. This category covers how well the cigar actually smokes. How easy is it to light? How well does it burn? Does it burn evenly? How hard do you have to pull to draw in smoke? How firmly packed is the ash? While loose ash doesn’t necessarily mean you have a bad cigar, ash that can retain it’s shape for up to an inch can be an indicator of cigar quality. There are 25 points in this category.
Overall Experience. This final category sums up the reviewers overall impression of the cigar. Flavor is counted highly in this category, but judges are mostly looking at a final judgment on the cigar – is it worth the money? This category makes up the remaining 35 points, bringing the total score for the cigar ratings up to a possible 100.

The overall quality of a cigar can also come down to the quality of tobacco leaves, the way the cigar has been stored or even the aging process.

Cigars Magazine suggests that smoking a single cigar isn’t the best indicator of quality, so the best way to get an overall cigar rating for a particular cigar brand would be by smoking a box of 25. (Cigar Place doesn’t recommend smoking all 25 in one sitting!)

Don Tomas Clasico Presidente Cigar Review

Cigar Reviews Don Tomas Clasico Presidente Cigar Review cigarobsession.com http This 7.5×50 stick offers a medium brown, very soft and satiny wrapper with almost no veins and clean seams topped by a double cap. The aroma is a potent but soft tobacco with a touch of pepper. First light reveals a tight draw, medium-full body, good smoke production and a slightly sweet, peppery wood and tobacco flavor. The first third holds the same profile, with a great even burn and good smoke production despite the firm draw. The ash holds on for 1 1/2″ and at the 30 min mark the draw opened up slightly, increasing smoke production and body to a medium-full. Flavors transitioned to a soft leahter, heavy earth, slight sweetness and black pepper with a bit of zing on the long finish. 40 min in at the end of the first third, flavors had gone to a rich, oly creamy butter with hints of cocoa and a dry licorice, the finish a dry tobacco. Smoke output kept increasing also getting richer with a slightly looser draw. 1:10 in at the 1/2 way point flavors were a rich creamy leather with a short smooth tobacco finish. Draw continued to ease and smoke output still increased to a great level of amount and richness. Ending at 1:45 with about 1″ remaining, the flavors took on an additional component of a slight cocoa in the last third adding to an already rich pleasant collection. Thank you very much to Jeremie Plouffe for generously sending me this sample for review! Photography by BG Pictures.

Tatuaje Black Tubos Cigar Review

Cigar reviews Tatuaje Black Tubos Cigar Review cigarobsession.com http This 6×52 torpedo stick comes packaged in an aluminum tube and cedar wrap. It offers a dark chocolate wrapper with a slight red hue, a satin texture with very slight tooth, tight seams, minimal veins and a slight barnyard aroma. After toasting the closed foot and adjusting the head cut, the draw was perfect, smoke output was great and the flavors were dominated by a medium-full bodied smooth, rich pepper and spice. The first third develops to a light and airy leather with a deeper earthy pepper and spice, though not as intense as the first light. Smoke output is good with smooth rich smoke. Burn is ok, needing a touchup. The draw gets a bit snug and I clipped the head one more time. 30 minutes in at the 1/2 way point flavors have mellowed to a smooth creamy medium bodied smoke with a slight sweetness, earthy oily finish and good bit of pepper & spice. It is requiring a slight touchup every 10 min or so to prevent tunneling. Ending at 1 hour, the last third continues the same experience since the 1/2 mark, ending with a bit of power punch. 10 Tips for the Cigar Novice

Starting up a new hobby can be intimidating. Going golfing for the first time with a bunch of guys who have been doing it for years can make a beginner feel self-conscious about his lack of prowess on the links. People just learning to play guitar will go for years refusing to play in front of others. Even someone learning to cook might be embarrassed to share a less than savory meal with his family.

Some people might not consider smoking cigars a hobby, but it certainly is a pastime and it has its own intricacies just like anything else. There are traditions and faux pas when it comes to smoking cigars that any old puffer at the country club will notice and call you out on in a heartbeat.

Good-natured as the ribbing may be, it can’t hurt to brush up on some cigar “do’s and don’ts” before you have a cigar among the aficionados. Included are some suggestions for classy cigars and accessories that will show off your sense of refinement and good taste.

1. It is not a race. Smoking a cigar should be a leisure activity. The best way to start is to smoke as if it is no big deal. Take your time and enjoy it.

The Ashton Magnum is a smooth and creamy cigar that is perfect for new smokers. The aroma and flavor is remarkably consistent so you won’t ever get a bad draw. Ashton Magnums are made from Dominican leaves and shade-grown Connecticut wrappers. It is truly a cigar to be savored.

2. Trim the end of your cigar with a cigar cutter. Don’t try to bite it off with your teeth. This may look cool in the movies but it will just leave you with an unsightly and decidedly uncouth mouthful of tobacco.

The Double Blade Stainless Round Cigar Cutter from Orleans is an inexpensive yet fully functional cigar cutter. In other words, it is perfect for beginners. It works with a dual-blade guillotine action, which ensures a shred-free cut. It is housed in a durable stainless steel case for a long lifespan.

3. Don’t grind out a cigar in an ashtray. Let it go out on its own. This is a handy technique for being able to re-light a cigar later on. It is also polite to not leave the smudged out remains of tobacco scattered around in an ashtray.

In your own home, it is also nice to have a relatively clean ashtray. The Flor De Gonzalez Ashtray is made of simple black porcelain with the company’s logo in the center. It is square with resting places for your cigar in all four corners.

4. If there is less than a quarter left, let it go out in an ashtray. When a cigar starts to get that short, it will begin to lose its flavor. Nothing gold can stay. When it gets to the ¼ mark, it is time to let it go.

Another practical and stylish ashtray is the Hexagon Crystal Cigar Ashtray from Orleans. It looks incredibly luxurious for its modest price. It has wide stirrups (that’s where the cigar rests) to accommodate bigger cigars and a deep bowl for plenty of ash.

5. Don’t show off. Nothing screams amateur more than someone who makes a big deal out of smoking a cigar. Cigar holders and fancy smoking techniques are the antithesis of the cool guy casually smoking a cigar. You are allowed to blow smoke rings though. That’s a cool trick that’s not overtly flashy.

The best way to look natural smoking a cigar is to find one that you enjoy. In the beginning, it is best to start with a milder cigar and work your way up to fuller flavors. The Montecristo #1 is a legendary Cuban-inspired cigar that is made in the Dominican Republic.

6. Don’t chew on it. You are not Peter Parker’s grizzled boss at the newspaper. You are not a grunt in World War II. Unless you are being shot at or trying to ruin Spider-Man’s good name, chewing on a cigar is just plain gross.

Fine cigars can be works of art and the Griffin’s Robusto Natural is not something that you chomp away at. It has a rich and mild taste that smokers of every level can enjoy.

7. Don’t ask for a light. Seriously, you are a cigar smoker now. You should be carrying your own lighter around. In the worst case scenario, ask the bartender for a pack of matches.

The refillable Xikar EX Windproof Flame Cigar Lighter is far more practical than it sounds. It looks good and is affordable without appearing cheap or flashy. It is a functional, fantastic lighter that gets your cigar lit. What else could you want?

8. Don’t be afraid to let it go out and re-light it later. If you have spent some money on a nice cigar, there is no need to smoke it all at once and no need to waste it. Just scrape the ash off and rotate it over a flame for a moment to catch it again.

The Davidoff Millienium Churchill is a full-bodied, hearty, Dominican cigar that you won’t want to let go to waste. These cigars are top-notch and have a complex blend of aromas and flavors. Don’t be afraid to let it go out and enjoy the rest later.

9. Take your time warming up the end before you light it. This prevents you from charring the tobacco.

The Vector Vulcan Triple Flame shoots out a powerful trident flame that will allow you to perfectly light your cigar without over-toasting it.

10.  Don’t smoke one after another. You are not chain smoking cigarettes here. Cigars are meant to be savored. Take your time and enjoy it. When it’s done, it’s done. Get on with your life for a while before having another.

If you find yourself enjoying your new pastime of smoking cigars, you are going to want to eventually invest in a humidor to keep them fresh. The Capri Humidor is a lovely, affordable way to keep your cigars tasting fresh for a long time.

Smoking cigars isn’t like smoking cigarettes. It is a hobby, not a habit. It is the difference between enjoying a fine glass of wine and slamming whiskey before noon. Take to heart these tips and smoke in moderation and you will be on your way in no time.

For many cigar smokers, the availability of a large variety makes it difficult to select the correct type of cigar cutter. There are many types of cutters available for purchase. Single or double guillotine cutters, which are most suited for beginners. They cut cigars neatly and very precisely. Scissor cutters ensure proper and even cut of cigar but it must be ensured that undue pressure is not put on the cigar. These can be used only after some practice. Cigar punch cutters are used for making holes in wide cigars. These should be selectively used as they cannot be used to cut all types of cigars.

Palio Cutter is most suitable due to its excellent quality and durability. Palio Cutters come in various patterns and colors like silver, black and a fantastic burl finish. The Palio Cutters have excellent brand recognition and service. There is no other cutter that makes cigar smoking such a memorable experience as a Palio Cutter.

A Palio Cutter is not just any accessory but it is a need for cigars. Like ladies who spend a lot of time selecting their foot wear, you should also make adequate efforts to select a superior quality of cigar cutter. It should be able to provide a neat and clean cut on every cigar. Each cigar you smoke of a brand should have the same flavor and aroma and the best and most sure way to ensure this is with using a quality cigar cutter so you get an even consistent cut.

Just do not go in for any cheap quality cutter that may look attractive and colorful. You need a cigar cutter that will stand the test of time and produce perfect cuts to make smoking your cigar an experience to remember. A Palio cigar cutter meets all the requirements for serious cigar smokers and will ensure continued satisfaction.

I have been involved in the cigar industry for over 20 years and I have written extensive guides on such products as the Boveda Pack, a quality humidification product, and the Palio Cutter. Also, see some of my latest guides on how to choose a Cigar Holder
